This is Out and Out Football

I'm Adam. I'm a football fan and I'm a gay man.

And while I'm ashamed of neither of those things, for some reason it feels like those two facets of me don't sit well alongside each other. Like somehow as soon as you combine being gay and being a football fan, something tilts.

When I've met other queer people and mentioned that I like football, their reaction is notable. It might be a puzzled look. It might be more verbal than that: 'you like football?!'. But too often, it’s felt like a confession and it’s made me think twice about mentioning it.

Why is that? While it’s a clearly ridiculous state of affairs, it seemed worth investigating.

One reason, I think, is that the footballing world and a queer world that don't often collide.

There is no dedicated home for content made by queer football fans about being a queer football fan.

So this is Out and Out Football. It's a place where those the queer world and the football world will collide. And we'll share stories about how and where LGBTQ+ identity and football meet.

We'll look at how football can be a source for hope for queer people. We'll inform and educate to help tackle the homophobia that too often exists in the football world. And we'll shine a light into the too-often hidden world of being a football fan and queer.

And along the way, we'll build a community of likeminded people, so that no one feels like they don't belong in the world of football.

So, will you join us?
